Has anyone here had issues with Kidney Stones or Gallstones post surgery

  • Dehydration. Not drinking enough Water each day can increase your risk of kidney stones. People who live in warm climates and those who sweat a lot may be at higher risk than others.
  • Certain diets. Eating a diet that's high in Protein, sodium and sugar may increase your risk of some types of kidney stones. This is especially true with a high-sodium diet. Too much sodium in your diet increases the amount of Calcium your kidneys must filter and significantly increases your risk of kidney stones.
  • Being obese. High body mass index (BMI), large waist size and weight gain have been linked to an increased risk of kidney stones.
  • Digestive diseases and surgery. Gastric bypass surgery, inflammatory bowel disease or chronic diarrhea can cause changes in the digestive process that affect your absorption of Calcium and Water, increasing the levels of stone-forming substances in your urine.

So far I haven't developed a kidney stone, but I have had 2 UTI since surgery in January. Prior to that, I hadn't had one in over 10 years. My PCP said several of his patients who had wls have gotten them when they previously hadn't had an issue. First one was admittedly my fault because I had been traveling and not hitting my Fluid goals. But after that, I made sure to get in my minimum 64oz and still got one. Since then, I only drink plain Water for my 64oz ( no crystal lite etc), might be coincidence but it makes me feel better to think that helps :)

I was on the app via my phone which doesn't show the forum threads are posted to. Just realized this is in the male only forum. My apologies.

No you are quite alright for posting this. The only reason it was in the male's only forum was because there was/is a concern about it being a prostate issue and not just a kidney/gallbladder issue. But yeah I have been making sure I was getting my fluids in. I may have to take your lead and back off of the Water enhancers and just try to get pure Water in and not water mixed with powered or teas.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
