One of my favorite places in the whole world is Keeneland racecourse. I haven't been able to go to the races in years. It has been hard, especially since I moved to central Kentucky four years ago, to be so close and yet know I couldn't navigate the seats, walking, stairs, distance from bathrooms, etc.

I was able to go to opening day on Friday! It was a beautiful day and I was able to fit in the reserved seats, had no trouble making it to the bathrooms and was able to walk a good bit (even though I used the handicap shuttle to get back to the car ---- I am not on that good of physical shape, yet).

I am even planning to try to go back again during this meet.

By the way, I had burgoo for lunch.< /p>

And your horse in the 5th, a long-shot, came in first, paying 218-1. Not a bad day at all.

Lord, I wish. Actually, the one I actually won had decent odds. The one I ALMOST won (by a photo finish nose) was against the odds-on favorite and set a track record. IF I had won I would have done very well.

But, I count my $2 and $5 bet losses as my price for fun and admission.

I am certainly not a high roller.

Burgoo is a Kentucky specialty. SORT of like Brunswick Stew. I'll see if I can find a recipe online.

Congratulations! I lived in Lexington twice and one of the things I enjoyed was fall and spring meets a Keeneland. I also miss the nighthawk steak and the Kentucky Hot Browns at Columbia. One of my very best friends lives in Mayesville and says Lexington has really changed alot but it is still beautiful in spring and fall.

@@Inner Surfer Girl I was born in Lexington and grew up in Paris. My mom lives in Lexington now. I've been in Florida since '97. I miss Lexington and Keeneland so much! You made me think of so many good times I had at Kenneland and watching the horse races! I can't tell you the last time I had burgoo! Sounds so yummy!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
