Gallbladder Ultrasound?!?!?!?

Recommended Posts

Why do I have to have a gallbladder ultrasound done before surgery? You know when your in the office with the surgeon sometimes your so anxious you don't ask obvious questions. Like sir, why did you order A gallbladder ultrasound for me. Has anyone else needed this procedure done? Please feel me in as to why we need it.

I'm just guessing here but I do know a lot of surgeons will remove your gallbladder too at the time of your surgery if they see stones.

It is on the checklist for my surgeon too. They said it is standard at least with my doctor. I'm not sure the exact reason.

Basically your dr wants to know everything about your body, so once they get inside you, there won't be any surprises. I know I had it done, I actually have a few gallstones....but my gallbladder looked healthy and no symptoms, so they left it in me. But the dr knew they were there and took a look to be sure all was well. This is major surgery and the more the dr knows about your body, the smoother surgery will go.

I had my ultrasound and they told me that I get to keep my gall bladder. No stones, looked good. My surgery is next Thursday.

I just learned I have gall stones and will need to have my gallbladder removed before my sleeve surgery. I was really hoping that it could be done at the same time.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
