Drainage Issue :( Any Help?

Recommended Posts

I'm 13 days post op and still have drainage from an incision everyday. There's no infection, swelling, or pain so the surgeon says it's still normal at this stage and to keep airing it out. It seems to me that drainage from the incision should have stopped by now. Am I crazy? Is there a usual time when drainage stopped for any of you? Any & all input is appreciated :)

Has your drain been removed? Mine was removed 24 hrs after surgery. I had slight drainage. What I can say was that the drain incision took the longest to heal out of all the other incisions and healed as a raised scar. If you don't notice your wound dressing smelling or any off colored drainage, it should be ok. If you're still worried, have a wound care specialist look at it. Hope it heals well for you!

Yes, it's the incision from drainage. Still getting small amounts of pink and yellow Fluid weeping from the incision. I just want it to stop so I can wear something other than a black shirt. Can anyone tell me when their incisions finally stopped draining?

I had nasty brown drainage from one of my lower incisions 2 days after my staples & drain were removed. It freaked me out but I called the bariatric nurse and she said it was totally normal and to put a bandaid on it. I also put gauze because I didn't want to ruin my clothes. After 4 or 5 days it finally stopped - I was about 14 days out.

Are you allowed to put a bandaid on it?

@@gemigirl Unfortunately I can't use bandaids cuz they pull a lot of the wound off with it. Dr recommended wet gauze with dry on top of that but even that pulled the scab too. I'm 14 days out now and it still hasn't stopped but it definitely lessened. I'm really praying it stops soon

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
