I want to get the Sleeve but surgeon is pushing Roux En Y

Recommended Posts

I had the sleeve in 2011 and it worked well for me.Then acid reflux got a lot worst and starting causing all kinds of issues. My Hiatal Hernia failed too and caused my stomach to push upwards. It is hard for Hiatal Hernia's to not fail because they are attached to the diaphram and it moves every time we take a breath. On Nov.22,2016 I had my sleeve converted to bypass.Only way to end acid and bile reflux. They also repaired Hiatal Hernia again.Feel so much better.

Hope this helps anyone considering WLS.

This is what I'm afraid of too. But I use a lot of Advil so they say to get the sleeve. I have to discuss this more with my surgeon. Have you told them that you only want the sleeve?

My surgeon really convinced me that roux en y is the way for me due to my diabetes and GERD. He seems so sure it will give me the best results. Since I'm trusting him to slice me up, why wouldn't I trust his judgement in my particular case. My sister will be getting the sleeve cause she's more stubborn that me.

I told them originally I only wanted the sleeve. You will not be able to take Any NSAIDS after surgery.{Aspirin.Aleve,Napraoxen,Moltrin}. This will lead to ulcers.

Let your sister be warned she might have to have another surgery if she develops acid reflux.I didn't have issues for a long time.Had sleeve in 2011.Then this year 2016 started having a lot of acid and bile reflux.

My surgeon told me that if you take NSAIDs then to get the sleeve so you can still take them. Said with the bypass you can't take them.

Yeah my back would get so bad I was on 10-325 percocet for 2 yrs with muscle relaxers. After 2 yrs of epidurals and facet joint injections I'm off those meds. That over the counter stuff never helped me any I heard you can still take Tylenol. I think you gotta look at all your health conditions and look at which one gives you a higher percentage chance of giving you a better quality of life. The data is out there and we all have to make the call to what is best for each of us

Yeah I have back issues as well. I have herniated discs and a healed compressed fracture. Before they wanted me to do bypass then I ended up pregnant then the second time they said sleeve and I ended up pregnant again. My thing is now that I've cut out sofa, I can go off my Prilosec with no issues. Idk I also believe that doctors need to take what their patient wants into consideration as well.

My surgeon said research has shown that the someone with GERD should never have the sleeve. I have a medium hitial hernia and she said she saw no signs or damage of GERD, but I did tell her I had an increase in heartburn for me since developing the hernia. She said research was iffy for individuals such as me, so she said as long as I understood the risks, but I've never had GERD or even needed medicine. Before my hernia I was someone that got heartburn like a few times a year. Since losing a little weight I don't even remember having any now. Your surgeon really is giving the best recommendation, and I don't think it has anything to do with your weight. I'm the weight that's typical of people choosing bypass, but my doctor never pushed bypass. I've seen 250lb people have bypass, and 500lb people have sleeve. Both were successful.

I've seen people on here with GERD who had sleeve and are in pain and now on meds! I'd trust in your doctor!

My clinic told me I could never use medicine like Advil for life. I'm having the sleeve on 19th. When I met with them I was on ibuprofen from a car accident. They told me to get a new pain management.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
