3 days post op. -question.

Recommended Posts

So I am finally sleeved. Not sure what I feel about it just yet. I've had a rough 3 days. I had excruciating dry heaving episodes immediately following surgery. They tried zofran, phenegran, suppositories, scope patch, and reglan. For at least 24 hours I was vomiting bile. I really started to think wtf did i do? It was very scary. They reassured me that it was all normal and happens to some people. Finally yesterday I stopped dry heaving and was able to Finally get my leak test and get sent home.

Otherwise I am tolerating liquids, taking in my Protein slowly but surely.

I have one question tho, at the top of my stomach when I swallow liquids I get this tight feeling, it's painful at times. I can't differentiate what this feeling is. If it's gas, pain, or something abnormal... Anyone experience this? I assume it's something that will pass eventually.

Your stomach is swollen now so it is likely when liquids are trying to enter it, you are feeling it. Try taking smaller sips and try different temperatures. I didn't have pain like that but others have posted about it. As the swelling goes down, it will get easier.

I am 6 days post op, and I have had that same feeling. Especially the first three days after surgery. It hurts and feels like a spasm. I think like suzzzz said it is caused by swelling. When we swallow it is so narrow at the stomach opening that it hurts until it gets into the stomach. I'm no doctor but that's what I have thought, and now 6 days past surgery that feeling is getting a lot better and way less frequent.

I get the same feeling. I think it's the liquids going into the narrow stomach opening. I try to take smaller sips. I'm sure it'll go away soon.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
