I woke at 3 am this morning with really bad heartburn. I take prescription meds for heartburn but I guess they no longer work. I had my surgery Sept. 26. Anyway, I tried elevating my head but that didn't help. I ended up sleeping upright on the couch. It eventually went away but came back about an hour ago. I got in my Protein Drinks but I'm so thirsty! I'm sorry to be so graphic, but I feel like I'm about to puke acid. I see my doctor for my two week follow up on Tuesday. But what can I do in the meantime? Any suggestions please? Is this normal?

Yes. I made some Butternut squash Soup (no dairy) and have ricotta cheese. I eat tiny meals of either the Soup or the cheese.< /p>

I had surgery oct 3 and had really bad heartburn the second night in hospital and they gave me some chalky stuff to drink. I ask when I left what I would do if that happened at home. They said I could take over the counter stuff with no issues. I took some tums the other night cause it came back and that helped. I still take my daily ppi as well.

Thank you, thisisthenewme. Nice to know that even PPIs don't always work. This is the first time it's bothered me since I was in the hospiral.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
