Spectra13 25 Posted October 8, 2016 (edited) Sleeved 9/19. Prior to the surgery I had energy. Meaning, I had no issues hiking through the woods, walking a whole zoo without sitting once, etc. Here I am going into week 4, eating soft foods, getting in my Protein 60-80g, staying around 800 calories. taking my Multi Vitamins, B12, Calcium and drinking my Water ( maybe not enough). I have been walking the dogs short walks and afterwards I am ready for bed. Yesterday, I walked in the woods with my SO and got back to the car and felt like I was so weak and light headed. Sometimes I shower and I need a nap. Is this normal? I know I am still healing, but have others felt this way in this time period? First week after surgery I lost 11.5 I just weighed myself and seems I have only lost a couple more lbs since. How is that possible???? Thank you. HW 276. SW 245. CW 230. In my support group the other night there was a young women (in her 30's maybe) who is 5 weeks out and still feeling like you do, napping every day, etc. The nurse who runs the group had some ideas for her. Sorry I can't be more help, I am pre-surgery. I do fear the same thing happening to me, I have never been good at having energy while barely eating, hence the reason I can never stay on a diet long enough to lose weight. silverthreads 183 Posted October 8, 2016 I felt much the same as you did at 4 weeks out -- and don't forget the oft-mentioned "three week stall" which I got about the 4th week. Sounds like you may be there yourself. Your body is learning to live on many fewer calories so you'll have a lack of energy/stamina for a while. I'm just over 5 months out now and feel great -- I started going to exercise classes at about 6 or 8 weeks and had enough energy to do OK but it has gotten better over time. silverthreads 183 Posted October 9, 2016 (edited) I don't remember exactly when I had the energy, but I had the luxury of 6 weeks off work and I remember I thought I could have returned comfortably at 4 weeks--except I still benefited from a nap every afternoon! I was using the gym in my apartment complex by week 4--only a little at first but in a couple of weeks I was up to 30 minutes of cardio (and then I needed a nap!). By 8 weeks I was taking hour long spin classes and no more naps. Just take it at your own pace and the energy will come. It's not like I was in great shape before the surgery BTW. We're all different but if you read this site you will hear that most people do very well. Some have a harder start than others--no way to predict that I expect. Maintaining a positive outlook and recognizing that the first few steps of the journey are the hardest is the best advice I can give. All the best to you for your individual journey!
