tenseintexas 182 Posted October 8, 2016 (edited) I have had a gurgling in my throat for that last week- it is not painful but making me crazy. Nothing ever comes up - just like weird bubbles . I take nexium everyday. What is it and what should I do? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Edited October 8, 2016 by tenseintexas
Butterflywarrior 241 Posted October 9, 2016 I haven't been sleeved yet but I heard about this gurgling being common after surgery...sometimes it's needing to chew more through and other times it's the stomach trying to readjust
tenseintexas 182 Posted October 9, 2016 It's usually when I haven't eaten- like right when I wake up :/ Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

tenseintexas 182 Posted October 9, 2016 (edited) Well that is terrifying. I was hoping this was normal of people who have had sleeves Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Edited October 9, 2016 by tenseintexas
hectorlopez323 60 Posted October 9, 2016 I want the sleeve. My surgeon is pushing really hard to get me to agree to the roux en y. He says cause I have GERD , the sleeve would make it worse. Did you have acid reflex before the sleeve? Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App
rolosmom7 740 Posted October 9, 2016 Nexium may just not be strong enough. You may just need rx omeprazole or pantaprazole
hectorlopez323 60 Posted October 9, 2016 I'm on omeprazole, surgeon said it wouldn't be effective post surgery. Tenseintexas, is omeprazole an option? Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App
tenseintexas 182 Posted October 9, 2016 Nothing is coming up at all- so IS it reflux? I don't know what omeprazole is? I will call my dr tomorrow for sure Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
Butterflywarrior 241 Posted October 9, 2016 @@hectorlopez323 do ur research..im surprised ar yout surgeon... my understanding is that you can get gerd with either surgery but ur actually less likely to get it with the sleeve because you keep your pyloric valve in the stomach.... trhe surgical nurse at our program said this at the last support group but I have also read it.... Nothing is coming up at all- so IS it reflux? I don't know what omeprazole is? I will call my dr tomorrow for sure Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App omeprozole is prilosec
hectorlopez323 60 Posted October 9, 2016 I'll look more into it. I've read a few random medical posts and some contradict eachother. One common idea however is that if you have pre-existing GERD it can get worse with sleeve. Ty for the advice. I will continue looking into it. I signed th concent form and he put down roux en y or possible sleeve gastrectomy or something like that. So I keep reading up on it , but he did scare me with this relevation. tenseintexas 182 Posted October 9, 2016 @@hectorlopez323 my surgeon also said reflux is less with the sleeve? Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
rolosmom7 740 Posted October 9, 2016 I take pantaprazole - I don't think it has a generic like Nexium or Prilosec. I take pantaprazole - I don't think it has a generic like Nexium or Prilosec.Yes, it's Protonix. Rx only.

Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App Yes I read and heard if u have it pre existing ur pretty much doomed to get it after with either surgery. I was supposed to get roux en y originally However I have a ton of medical problems plus on psych meds for bipolar and PTSD. So surgeon said adjustment of psych meds, chronic pain meds and those like me who sometimes need corticosteroids can't get rny bc malabsorption screws it all up with meds so don't know if you fall in any of those categories like me but it's something else to consider
