Lack of energy, itching incisions and port issues

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, I am newly banded 10 days now. The first 3 days were horrible but I must admit things have gotten so much better. The problem that I'm still experiencing is a lack of energy. I drink my Protein Drinks but I still get tired quickly. I plan to return to work in 4 days. Has anyone else experienced the lack of energy and did it eventually go away? My other issues are my incisions itch out of control and I can feel my port. Any suggestions are welcomed.

You'll rally. Healing and bouncing back takes a little longer for some. Feeling the port isn't so unusual. You do mean that you feel it when you touch your midriff, yes?

If you still have plastic tapes over the incisions, all you can do is apply some gentle pressure when the itching acts up. When the tapes fall off without help (I'm assuming here, of course), you'll be able to apply some soothing lotion. Sorry, but I can't think of one. Or call your surgeon's office. It may be that you can apply some lotion over the tapes without causing them to fall off prematurely. (I can't recall at all how long my plastics stayed on.)

Thank you for responding. As for the port, I think I can feel it moving. I can feel it shift when I lay on my side and when I lay on my back the side of my stomach area that the port is on feels "heavy". I believe it may just take a little time to get used to it but it's an awkward feeling. I will mention it to my doctor at my follow up on Monday.

As for the itching... oh goodness! Some of the steri strips are still intact and some have fallen off. I assume that it's a mixture of the strips and dry skin that is causing these horrible outbreaks of itching.

Again thank you for responding, this site and its members have been so helpful with my journey.

Yes . I was sleeved on 9.7.16. I found out I was allergic to the glue. I used hydrocortisone cream. My energy level has gotten much better. It's a process.. are you exercising?

I am 9 days post-op from VSG and definitely struggling with the lack of energy and itchy incisions. It's not at all fun but it is very normal! Two days ago I could barely get out of bed, yesterday was better - we will see what today brings. Are you getting all of your Vitamins in? I'm thinking of upping my B12 in the hopes that it will help with energy. I went back to work on day 6 post-op ... it's not easy but it's doable! Hang in there - I'm sure things will start looking up soon!

Thank you all , I take all advice in to consideration. As for exercising, I am walking outside everyday. A little further each day.

I have a follow up with my surgeon on Monday and I will be sure to address all other issues.

Good luck to all of you with your weight loss journey.

I can feel it shift when I lay on my side and when I lay on my back the side of my stomach area that the port is on feels "heavy". I believe it may just take a little time to get used to it but it's an awkward feeling. I will mention it to my doctor at my follow up on Monday.

When body position is changed -- e.g., sitting to lying -- the port does seem to change places. When I want to find my port (sometimes it's obvious, sometimes not, again because of whatever position I'm in), I think I'm finding it in different places. If I recall correctly, the port actually is fastened in place so that it doesn't really migrate around at the end of its tube.

The "heavy" feeling you describe may be because you're still healing. Sure, mention it at Monday's appointment just for your peace of mind.

I think you're in good shape.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
