Approved but a snag ...

Recommended Posts

I'm so excited that I received my insurance approval within a week of the request going in. The only problem is that they have only approved me to have surgery at a particular hospital ... that my current surgeon doesn't practice at! So, I've got approval but have to start over with a new surgeon. I'm hoping that will be fairly easy to do - all of my requirements have been met unless they have specific ones I need to meet. So far, I have to attend a 2 hour consultation next week with their practice and then schedule a new initial consult. Hopefully, that's it and we can get me scheduled! So, I'm excited to have approval but frustrated about needing to change surgeons. But, progress is progres!

good attitude!!!

it is a bummer that you have to change docs :(

kind of start over

insurance told me i had to have WLS at a center of excellence (something like that)

found the hospital first - then i looked for doc who was acceptable

look at the bright side

insurance is still paying for your surgery :)

you might have to wait a little longer to have WLS

at the end of the day, it's worth it!!!

hope WLS is sooner than later

good luck

kathy

@@anrobe That's a pain. Didn't the surgeon know that they only allowed certain hospitals?

You would think they would, huh? Ugh. Oh well. At least they are helping me transition!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
