So as I preparing to pass my boards in two weeks :) I have a question how has working and WLS been? Which surgery did you have? How do you meet your requirements through your shift, was it hard at first? Do you require more Protein to get you through 12 hr shifts I've just been wondering?

I am an RN, but I just got my bypass. I am wondering how I will get enough Water during my shift. The manager keeps making us put our Water in a back cubby where it is largely inaccessible.

RN here. I had 6 full weeks of medical leave. Getting enough Water and Protein in during work days was definitely a challenge at first. I would drink a Protein Shake on the way to work and eat lunch and a snack. It definitely got easier after a month or so. 9 months later I have now perfected my eating schedule and manage to get all my protein and most of my water in. On the drive to work I drink a shake, 9am Breakfast snack, 1pm lunch, 3pm snack, then dinner when I get home.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
