vicki99 0 Posted October 7, 2016 I had my RNY on Aug 26, 2015 and I have lost a total of 124 pounds thus far. I still have about 45 pounds or so to lose. I have experienced something I find a little odd and was wondering if anyone else had noticed it as well. The last time I was this weight I was two whole sizes bigger than I am now. I am actually smaller than my weight would indicate. I hate to admit it, but I rarely work out, just mainly walk a lot, so I can't really say it is muscle versus fat, since I am much older and whatnot. Does anyone have any insight into this? Don't get me wrong... I am loving it, just a little confused.
gpmed 623 Posted October 7, 2016 Vanity sizing is definitely a thing. I have a supply of clothes from the last time I was my current weight about 10 years ago. Those things fit again and are 12s, 14s, and larges. When I buy clothes, I get 10s and mediums. You know how people like to point out that Marilyn Monroe wore a size 14? A size 14 from her era is probably the same as a size 4 or so today. How much sizes have shifted in just 10 years amazes me. I read recently that the average woman wears a size 16 or 18 now, which 10 years ago might have been an 18 or 20. With me wearing a medium, I'm wondering what actually tiny women are wearing? Like do the extra smalls even fit them?
MaryCatherine 173 Posted October 7, 2016 It used to be half your waist size. 20" waist was size 10, 24 inch waist size 12, 28 inch waist size 14. Now 23" waist is 0, 24 inch waist is 2, 28 inch waist is size
vicki99 0 Posted October 12, 2016 The vanity sizing thing is interesting. I wear a variety of sizes based on the brand anyway. But what I meant was, I still have clothes from when I was last this weight, and they are too BIG this time, the exact same outfits. Not that I am complaining, it just seems odd to me. Probably has to do with muscle tone and fat distribution.
