Dr. Does not stand by choice

Recommended Posts

I haven't had surgery yet but about 5 1/2 years ago I was able to lose 30 lbs on my own and BOOM, baby time. It's funny, prior I had been trying for a few years for my last baby, I finally gave up and decided I'd be OK with 2, and.... now I have 3 lol. So my advice to you is have the surgery. Then be diligent with birth control until you're done with school because chances are you will get pregnant fast other wise (my bff, currently pregnant with twins after wls. Lol)

Sorry im.all over the place and not making sense with this response. I've had a bad day. I think that she was just trying to sell me a $200/month diet plan and my feelings are hurt.

I had a similar experience with my primary care doc. She told me she thinks I would be better off trying her three shakes and one meal plan (which was available to purchase that day) instead of having revision surgery.

Mind you, she has gained a LOT of weight in the ten years that I've been her patient.

I've decided that after I recover from surgery I am going to start searching for a new primary care.

My primary care doctor tried to talk me out of it too. She also told me she would write a letter for my insurance to get me approved. She never did and ignored me. It was SO frustrating. She completely lied because of her own opinion. If this is something you are set on and want please do it. I get discouraged too when people try to talk me out of it or say I'm lazy, don't need it etc. then I think back to my depression. My anxiety. The absolute misery I endure every time I go shopping. How I haven't been to the beach because I hate the way I look. How I have no confidence and self esteem. I saw a quote that was something along the lines of "don't take advice from people who don't have to deal with the outcome" and it's so true. Please do not let her talk you out of it. Think about how much your weight affects you

Our bodies will not allow us to get pregnant unless we have enough fat on us to support a pregnancy. Mother nature takes care of that. Your doctor may not know all the ins and outs. You're talking about having kids and for 5 years and then maybe more kids so you're talking 10 years possibly if you have 3 kids to weight loss surgery. I suggest you talk to someone else who knows more about sleeves and pregnancy. I have seen people get pregnant after a sleeve and then fine. That's what Multivitamins are for and a reasonable diet is for.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
