What's Your Full Switch?

Recommended Posts

I am 4 days post op and I'm on full liquids today. I feel like I'm full but I know I haven't gotten anywhere near the amounts of liquids and Protein in today. I will sip some then have this small amount of pressure in the center of my chest, then it goes away. Am I really full and should just stop sipping???? I don't have an appetite either but figured I needed to stay hydrated. Any advice would help!

I feel a similar pain when I'm supposed to be done.

Sent from my SM-G935V using the BariatricPal App

Okay.. My stomach feels very heavy so I won't eat or drink anything else tonight... All I had was a tablespoon of applesauce!

I had that same feeling every single time I took a sip of Fluid for the first 2 weeks. Now that I'm several months out, I know that was NOT the 'full' signal. You won't really feel your restriction with fluids only, and you really need to be sipping on something pretty much the whole time you're awake to get your Protein and fluids. Fluids move very quickly through your stomach, and you will have to work to get all of what you need in during the first few weeks. Don't let that feeling stop you, my doc said it was just my pyloric valve spasming when Fluid hit it. It will ease up over the next week or so, most likely.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
