I felt the same way when I went to my first required support group. Everyone was older, I'm 27 btw. I don't feel as though you're too young. Just think at 23 you are seriously thinking and taking charge of your health.

Only you can know your maturity level and whether you are mature enough to follow the rules on Bariatric Eating for the rest of your life.

I didn't get my sleeve until I was 46. However I was pudgy as a teenager but not fat until my 20s. I will say I wish I could have gotten the sleeve sooner than I did. I would have had a lot less wear and tear on my joints and I never would have had high blood pressure or needed to take meds for that.

Being fat for 20+ years left me with a lot of hang-ups about how people view me and how I view myself. If you can get the sleeve and help prevent or minimize the low self worth images many obese people have go for it.

I applaud you for getting a handle on it now. I have always been overweight/obese, but I kept it under control for most of my 20s. (And by under control, I mean I was always on a "diet" and I lost 100 pounds three different times.) After about 33 or so, it all went to pot and I ended up 400 pounds six months ago.

I basically wasted most of my 30s, and not doing that in my 40s was a big motivator for me.

You aren't too young, but you do HAVE to internalize and accept the LIFELONG change with your relationship with food that this journey requires. If you can do that, you are golden.

Good luck!

Thank you you opinion really helps. That what I think most abou5 seeing my family who have been overweight their entire life and seeing the pain they are going through the because of that. I don't want to experience that no pain now but idk what the future holds because of that. Not only that I have a 4 yrs old. I'm so winded that I don't want to go play when we go to to the park.

I had my sleeve done at 36 years old, I can only wish I had the opportunity to do it when I was younger because I too wasted many years being severely overweight. If you are able to make the commitment to changing your lifestyle to accommodate the surgery then I would say go for it.

Do it now before your health goes to pot, joints are blown, you waste the best decades of your youth and health being self-conscious and uncomfortable, throw fertility in jeopardy, and have the best chance of your skin bouncing back!

Why wait? I SO WISH I could have done this in my 20s. I only got bigger and more uncomfortable in my own skin. I'd kill to go back 20 years and do it over!

Omg!!!!! I'm 24 I'm 5'2 and 235lbs and I'm having the sleeve done on November 16th!!!!!!! I'm in the exact same boat! I'm ready to get my life under control and finally be healthy and happy in my own body! I'm excited to do it know at the age of 24 because too many people in my family are obese and in failing health and I refuse to go the same way! I'm young and ready to take life by the rains and live my life with less joint pain and all the health problems I have now already at this young age

Wow that is ironic. So I know you understand how I feel. I'm excited but of course nervous. After reading the replies it helps me feel more comfortable about the surgery.

I'm 20 years old and 235lbs. I gained about 80lbs in 1.5 years and haven't been able to get it off. I haven't met anyone that is my age that's doing it

I'd pray for wisdom. At 50 I mid-crisis style added 50 lbs. So, I'll go from a softball sized stomach to a carrot-sized. If u do the procedure, and encounter this or other drama let's hope in 30 years of advancement that a straw will work.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
