Brianna13 0 Posted October 5, 2016 I am wanting to know how many women had fertility issues prior to surgery? My husband & I have been married for 3 yrs now & we have not been preventing pregnancy. I am hoping this will not only help me lose my excess weight that I have gained in the past 5 yrs since we met but will help with my fertility issues as well. It would be encouraging to see women who were able to get pregnant after the surgery. I'm currently doing my weigh ins & my insurance will cover my surgery. My Dr. & I are aiming for DEC. 2016
KristenLe 5,979 Posted October 5, 2016 @@Brianna13 Weight loss can increase fertility. If you have issues such as PCOS which are causing fertility problems - those can often be resolved with weight loss surgery. You really need to be careful and not get pregnant until your Dr clears you to - it's too dangerous for you and the baby.
Brianna13 0 Posted October 5, 2016 I understand that. I'm just wanting to see people who have been successful 1-2 yrs out.
KristenLe 5,979 Posted October 5, 2016 @@Brianna13 There's a special forum - you might be able to find some information or people in there who can help. http://www.bariatricpal.com/forum/427-pregnancy-with-gastric-sleeve-surgery/
Color83 74 Posted October 5, 2016 (edited) I was told that as our body burns stored fat all types of hormones are released increasing your level of fertility...down side you may see changes in your skin or acne also....but my Doctor recommends 2 forms of birth control for the first 18 months following surgery to prevent pregnancy. Prettylady512 7 Posted October 6, 2016 I understand that. I'm just wanting to see people who have been successful 1-2 yrs out.I was about 7mos post op, when I learned of my pregnancy. I'm now in my second trimester, I have not gained a pound. Baby is healthy. Prior to weight-loss surgery my hormones, thyroid and PCOS was all out of wack. Since dropping over 70lbs everything went back to normal, and so did my fertility. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using the BariatricPal App
