I had lots of pains I thought were hunger until I got my PPI regimen down, then gone! Now over a year out of VSG I don't have to take any PPIs.

I just started my Prilosec this morning. It was a capsule and I was a little nervous about it. Nexiums are MUCH smaller. But the nurse said I should be taking them. I am hoping this will alleviate the gurlging feelings in my stomach. I swear I am keeping my hubby up at night, SO loud! I am thinking they must be gas pains/noises, because I rarely feel hunger, other than "head hunger" which I deal with, but is getting better. Other than the grilled burgers my family enjoyed last night.... ugh... sippin' my broth, sippin my broth.< /p>

You might have some acid, but it could also just be legit hunger. Keep pushing your liquid (I am doing TERRIBLE at this) and your Proteins (ditto.) But I just keep plugging away.

@@mari12282 It may be stomach acid or actual hunger. Make sure you are taking a PPI and drink plenty of fluids.

What is a PPI? I forget...

I need to find a thread focusing on post-op meds and Protein shake suggestions!

The coordinator said we were going to discuss payment and meds next time we speak. Are we given a script for PPI? Or is this something we buy over the counter at the drug store?

Usually you're given a script. Alot of people like Premier Protein shakes (pre-made). I have to use Bariatric fusion for my pre-op and they're really good - I'm just getting sick of the sweetness quickly. I went to my pre admission testing yesterday and they reviewed what meds I take now and what I need to stop and what to take morning of surgery. Pre-op teaching tomorrow and I was hoping they'd give us our scripts for post-op.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
