When/what exercises can I do 2 weeks out? I feel great!

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved 9/19, have had an excellent recovery, am meeting protein/water/vitamin goals no problem, staples out last week and healing great.

I am seeing my Dr. and NUT this Friday for a follow-up and will ask them, but I've talked to them before about exercise and they are totally vague and noncommittal in the past, so I expect more of the same from them this Friday, which is why I'm coming here to ask. I asked repeatedly to the Dr., I have 40 lb toddlers, when can I lift them? What are restrictions? He said, "If it hurts, stop." No specific lbs restrictions given. I told him I have a sedentary job from home, if I had a good recovery, could I got back to work after a week? He said, "It's up to you how you feel."

No specific restrictions -- and I asked a TON of questions like that beforehand and have just gotten the "If it hurts, stop" spiel.

I feel great and am down 26 (pre & post-op,) and am already noticing the saggy skin on the arms, inside thighs, and tummy. I'm not looking to get a hernia or go run a Tough Mudder, but I'd love to bust out some low weight exercise DVDs, or even ab DVDs to get moving and try to tone.

I'm pinched for time crazily right now until Thanksgiving and can realistically only fit in walking 1-3 miles about 2-3x a week until then, but the DVDs at home I can do super early in the morning before work and the kids are up.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Tips? Recommendations? I can't get to a pool -- working out from home is really my only option for the foreseeable future. I love walking and hiking and yoga, but my schedule is crazed right now and, like I said, I can do walking/hiking 2-3x a week.

Has anyone worked out -- not crazily, but enough to break a sweat -- at 2 weeks post op? Tips?

I'm open to suggestions!

Thanks for any advice:-)

I was sleeved the same day as you! Been walking every day and am about to head out to the gym to do the elliptical for the first time. I was told that was great but to be careful not to engage my core for now. Generally speaking we shouldn't be lifting anything heavier than a gallon of milk until 6 weeks out.

I was told the same.

I was only allowed basically walking until 6 weeks out. The same lifting restriction as mentioned above and nothing that would work my core. Even though you are feeling great (and I'm very glad you are feeling so great!), you are still healing on the inside. But there is no limit to the amount of walking you are allowed to do!

I'm 9/19 too! I've been walking and have had 1 gym visit on the spin bike (not a class, that would be too much). I was very tired after. I know that I can't introduce weights until week 6, but I was wondering about yoga and stretching-type exercises.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
