stpatty 18 Posted October 4, 2016 What is the recovery time for an endoscopy? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
KristenLe 5,979 Posted October 4, 2016 You can't drive yourself home due to anesthesia but I don't think there's much of a recovery. You might be tired or have a sore throat.
aligator517 60 Posted October 4, 2016 I took about a week to feel back to normal-I had a swollen uvula following the procedure which was quite uncomfortable but not painful. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
wellah 14 Posted October 4, 2016 I was hoping to go back to work afterwards, even though I scheduled someone to give me a ride there and back. However, I'm guessing that I'm going to have to take the whole work day off. Mine is on October 14th.
stpatty 18 Posted October 4, 2016 I was hoping to return to work too. Maybe I can try to work from home. Mine is 10/31. That's the last requirement I have to complete. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
hotmamma1979 42 Posted October 4, 2016 I work in surgery center we donendocscopies regularly, you are given narcotics and a sedative that has amnesesic properties, same as for a colonoscopy, you can't drive or make legal decisions but should be fine the next day. However everyone metabolizes drugs differently. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
Chicken Lady 102 Posted October 4, 2016 My endoscopy was in the afternoon/ I got a ride home and slept the rest of the evening and night. I would not recommend going back to work the same day. No physical recovery- but foggy brain issue HW - 283 SW- 238 CW- ?
Ignatius 110 Posted October 4, 2016 I returned to work the next day with no issues, and I felt completely normal, minus being a bit tied, within a few hours. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
WLSResources/ClothingExch 3,444 Posted October 4, 2016 (edited) I had endoscopy a couple of weeks ago and felt like myself as soon as the anesthesia had completely worn off -- perhaps half an hour -- but didn't feel at all bad before. Went out to lunch with the friend who fetched me from the hospital. Throat was barely sore for a day or two -- similar to the feeling you get when a cold is coming on. I think I also had a slight bruised feeling with no visible sign at my lower lip or somewhere that the equipment pressed during the procedure??? I seem to recall taking a nap when I got home. All in all nothing worth discussing. It seems to me that if one thinks about it after waking, it's worse. kristenmh 68 Posted October 5, 2016 i had an endoscopy this morning -- i arrived at 6am, went under at 8, was awake on on my way home by 9am. i was a little wobbly for an hour or two, but got back to work by noon. i did work from home, just in case. my throat is definitely sore -- but tylenol is helping alot. gemigirl 134 Posted October 5, 2016 I felt fine after the endoscopy but I was drugged up. Took the day off and was fine the next day. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

QueenOfTheTamazons 634 Posted October 5, 2016 I had an endoscopy and a colonoscopy and was completely loopy the rest of the day. But when i had my endoscopy for surgery, my aunt picked me up (cause i needed someone), we went to olive garden for food and then she dropped me off at my car and i drove myself 45 miles home. No issues at all... Why the difference? Who knows. Maybe they gave me stronger stuff on the meet in the middle.
