Good morning all. I just had my surgery yesterday. I'm still in hospital cause I can't keep down liquids. Did anyone else have this issue and for how long?

I had that problem. I still only stayed in the hospital for 2 days. It was full days though. I had my surgery at 6 am Sept 21, 2016 and was not released until the 23rd at around 8 pm. A couple of tricks that I learned was to mostly sit straight up and keep a wet towel close by. When you feel that you are going to throw up, put the towel on the front of your neck. It doesn't always work, but it mostly does.

I hope you get to go home soon.

Update: I had my GS on Monday and could not keep liquids down. I was just released yesterday. I have IV at home because everything else was fine, but surgeon didn't want to take a chance on me being dehydrated and ending up back in the hospital . I tried flavor but anything sweet quickly cme back with a vengeance!????????????

Glad you finally got to go home. Hang in there, it will get better. Liquids are still hard for me. So is getting in the Protein. I want some veggies, but they cause bad gas and I always regret eating them.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
