Aetna. It sucks because I realized I wasn't really that far below the weight I need to be for them to cover it, but I can't bring myself to gain and hold there just for the surgery. I'm slowly losing just by watching my carbs - from 230 down to 223 - but obviously I'm not gonna get the results on my own that people are getting with this amazing surgery... SIGH... My doctor actually said it might be worth trying to fight them and get a waiver because I might not have their SPECIFIC comorbidities they want to see, but I DO have other issues aggravated by obesity. I'll see her again soon. We'll see what she says.

Write a letter to the insurance company explaining how your weight effects your health and quality of life. Explain all the diets you have been on as well as how you need to stay healthy for your children. I did that years ago for a breast reduction that my dr assured me would be denied and I was approved. I really wrote from the heart and did throw in how much money I had saved over the years by not going to the dr for my back aches, shoulder aches because I knew the cause and just took Tylenol and suffered. It can't hurt your cause.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
