Erosion, Femovals, Flipped Ports

Recommended Posts

I originally posted this in the wrong section but I am reposting it here because I really want to know.

I have noticed that there are quite a few people who have had bands removed, replaced, port revisions, stomach erosion, etc... and I am really wondering what causes all of this? I especially would like to know how to PREVENT any of these from happening! <!-- google_ad_section_end --><!-- / message -->

The best thing to do is follow the rules your doctor gives you. Generally don't try to eat more than your band will let you, avoid PB's, etc. Unfortunately, sometimes it happens to even the people who follow all the rules to the letter.

Keep in mind that a board like this gets more activity from people who need support than people who are doing fine and not having any problems, which is why it seems like there are a lot of issues.

Know one knows the answer to this ...I eroded and I was the perfect bandster patient. I lost 104 lbs in 18 months I did everything right. I am fortunate to have been so successful with my band before it eroded and got as much weight loss with it as I could, others here who eroded were not so fortunate. I also am happy to report that is has been 1 month shy of 2 years since my band was removed and I still am wearing my size 12's. In two years I have only gained 10 lbs. That is a victory for me. I learned alot with my band, it did it's job as a tool to help me, the rest is now up to me. The only advice I can give to those who have their bands still is to use it to the best of your advantage, you never know if or when you will erode. Some may never erode but some will. Get as much out of your band as you can.

I totally agree with both of you! I will follow the rules to a 't' but if it can happen anyway...well, I'll pray alot, that's all.

I think it's really commendable that you have kept your weight down even after removal! Congrats on that!!!

:whoo:

when my port flipped I was pissed, because my obstetrician took extra care in doing my c-section without touching it, an after my pregnancy, I was irrationally in a big hurry to start losing again. My band oc couln't get needle in, took a look, an said the stitches came lose and it had to be repositioned. Nobody did wrong, perhaps me or doc or whatever, but it happened.

Good thing- surgery was really really fast, I went home same ay, no pain, easy! and losing like right on track, revision is a distant memory.

Bad thing (kinda) - insurance paid for it(which is why the "kinda")revision bill was $8,000!!!!

surgery was $28,000 (completely covered by insurance, thank God!)

I guess a huge bill is what I get for going to mayo, thank God I'm moving soon - my floro bills also are over $300

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
