what stage is shrimp allowed?

Recommended Posts

As soon as I could do soft mushie. However 2 month out I still cannot tolerate it. I can't mush it up in my mouth enough to slide down easily. So no shrimp for me. It's more work than it satisfy me.

If it's going down well, you can tolerate it. You'll definitely know if you can't. For me there is pain. And it kinda sucks. But it's unmistakeable, you won't miss it!

Dumping only occurs in something 30% of patients. Again, I hear it's terrible and you will know. I've never dumped (6.5 months post-op) but I never, ever eat sugar (except as part of fruit).

If you can't tolerate something, just wait a few weeks and try it again. You will eventually be able to tolerate most if not all foods.

As far as shrimp, it was one of the first animal Proteins I could handle. For some it's one of the harder. It varies so much from person to person you just have to try it out (in accordance with your surgeons plan of course). Most people can tolerate fish quickly - I still struggle with fish, but can handle chicken and pork pretty well. I also struggle with ground meats, but a lot of people find these easier.

I cant explain why there is so much variance between people, but it seems to be a consistent theme around here.

I was given seafood 4 weeks out. Any type of seafood or shellfish I wanted... with one exception: shrimp. My team told me it was going to be too hard on my body at that time.

Well, about two weeks after that appointment I went on a roadtrip to Florida. I was stupid and ate a grilled shrimp off of my friend's plate at dinner one night. I got so sick that I very quickly learned my lesson to follow the guide my team gives me. I have a feeling it will be reintroduced to me soon (I am almost four months out).

I easily could eat chicken so long as it's moist or shredded. tuna salad. Sea bass is my favorite fish. Not a fish fan. I eat a lot of turkey cheese roll ups with a smear of mayo or mustard. NUT recently clear me for liverurst. Only once in a while. And I was able to eat a pork rib this week.

My program said that 4 months after RNY surgery, shrimp and lobster is acceptable. Canned lump crab meat is O.K. at 5 weeks post op provided it is pureed and at 9 weeks post op as solid.

If I remember correctly, shrimp was allowed on my soft mechanical stage. Maybe soft. You can always call and ask your NUT if in doubt.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
