Heading back to hospital, again [emoji45]

Recommended Posts

Now Post op day 7. Was in ER post op day 5 with infected drain site. Got a dose of IV antibiotics and started on oral antibiotics. Now with fever, increased pain and high heart rate again. Feeling sad and frustrated. Miss my 4 kids, and paying out of pocket.... so feel guilty about this massive added expense. Any prayers appreciated.

Will definitely keep you in prayer and sorry you're going through this. If you had gastric sleeve, it sounds to me like you may have a leak according to your symptoms. I believe that is a simple fix if that is the case.

Thank you- I had CT scan Saturday that showed no signs of leak. It did show a big gnarly swollen mess of tissue all around the drain though. I just want to get better

I had similar problems and I know how hard it is. So sorry that you are going through this. I was so worried because I missed my family and knew the little ones didn't understand my absence. You will get through this. Try to rest, it is so important. The antibiotics will clear the drain site. You must try to stay in and let the meds do their job. You will get better. I did and I know how hard it is.

Prayers coming your way!!

That's the treatment I had too. Try and rest, don't worry about your sleeve.

I had a similar problem post op but my sleeve was okay. I was worried about eating etc but obviously, with being so ill, I didn't want anything anyway. But if they will allow you to drink, just concentrate on getting the Fluid in to help wash out the infection.

If they have you on IV Fluid, then just rest and heal.

You will be okay.

Are they being kind to you? Do you have everything that you need? Is someone bringing you things?

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
