Mexican Food

Recommended Posts

Coming from Texas, most of our meals consist of mexican food. For those of you who have already had a fill, etc, what type of mexican food can you eat now.

I am scheduled for my first fill on the 14th, and so far I have managed to eat one cheese enchilada and I am full ( compared to before where I could eat a whole plate of fajitas ).

Just wondering what you can still eat --mexican food wise, as it is one of our main meals here in our household!

Well I have a hard time eating tortillas but if they are soft and mushy covered in a sauce I can get it down with small bites and lots of chewing. I can eat the fajitas in chicken if it is moist. I can get chips down like nachos, but not the best choice with all the cheese and sour cream. A lot of mexican places have other grilled chicken dishes besides fajitas, try to stick with those. I will be having my third fill in a week and a half and I am hoping to start feeling some restricition! I am getting fuller quicker, just not to my "sweet spot" yet. Good luck.

Hi,

Im from Texas as well. North Houston to be a little more exact. I was banded in June and had mexican food for the first time last week. I had 2 tacos, a few chips, a couple bites of Beans, no rice and 2 beers. The beer was first of course and sipped very slowly. Way less then before the band. It felt so good to eat and I did not feel bad about it either. Because I normally drink slimfast carb control, and salads with lean Protein. :D

I am from Texas too..and as you know it is one of the major food groups ha ha in Texas!! I have been banded 6 months today and have Mexican food probably twice a week. You will find that one enchilada will do you--but stay away from the rice. Also, gaucamole is awesome..and chips are no problem--but try to limit them--they go down REALLY easily even when I was at 2.6 in a 4 cc band.

I was wondering the same thing I go for my first fill on the 17th of September. My problem is I'm addicted to homemade chicken Taco salad, minus SC I use a little FF ranch.

I am from Texas, too. I have honestly found Mexican food to be the easiest to eat. Even though I have lots of restriction right now, I can still each chips and green sauce, as long as I take small bites. I just order a cup of torilla Soup instead of a meal. I can eat nachos pretty easily, too. I love Mexican food, and I am so happy it is easy to eat!

I'm also a Texan and I am so happy to hear that most can eat Mexican food! I swear I would shrivel up and die if I couldn't! (OK, not really but I'd want to!) I know rice will be out for me, and straight tortillas. Does it make a difference if they are corn or flour? I would think corn might go down easier? Or is that just wishful thinking?

I am sure that once I am up to eating a regular meal the first one will be Mexican!

WOOHOO.....glad to hear mexican food is not out of my life for good. Just for about 2-3 months it sounds like. I live in Texas too and it is definitely one of my main food groups. LOL

I was actually able to eat Mexican food soon after I went back on to "normal" food. I jsut had to be carefula s to waht I ate. I did have a burrito at a mexican restaurant and can have tacos as the shell is like a chip and crunches up really small and goes down fine. I was able to eat lettuce until my second fill that is when it became a no no for me. I couldn't live without mexican food. It is my absolute favorite, it is just about making differnet choices. Now I can't sit there and eat tortillas, but I can have a few chips and salsa. It is really about trying a little bite of something waiting a few minutes and seeing how it goes down. It is a whole learning process. Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
