Please forgive me for asking so many questions but i want to get them all out the way as they come to mind.

My favorite food is Cereal and pizza. When were you guys ever able to eat these if ever. I dont need huge amounts as i only eat a slice or two now and a bowl now but just the taste is what i love.

If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you always got. My thoughts, Cereal, bread, crackers, pizza, Cookies, cake, have no place in my home, 3 years since surgery. If it were here, I might slip. No, I would slip. After the sleeve you really can eat all the cereal you want, you can eat pizza every day of the week. You can eat it and never lose weight. I dearly love homemade biscuits, gravy, and chicken and dumplings like my Mother taught me. I really miss them but I could not wear my new clothes if I eat them. It is a choice. Make sure you are ready to change your life. Good luck girl!

I haven't had Cereal since before surgery. I do eat oatmeal pretty frequently. I just make sure I add Protein to it.

I have had pizza a handful of times since surgery (over a year and a half). It just doesn't do it for me like it did pre-op. It smells better than it tastes. If I eat it at all, I prefer that it be really good pizza (not any of the chain stuff) and I focus on the toppings. Personally, if I am eating at an Italian restaurant I would rather have meatballs.

One thing I enjoy is good meatballs, like Aidells. I buy some great Marinara sauce, expensive but good ingredients, no preservatives, and three baked meatballs with two Tbsp. MArinara makes me feel like I had an Italian meal.

pizza is a big one for me..I've modified my taste and make a low carb pizza since I'm doing low carb right now before surgery. I hope to have it on occasion after surgery as well, but they do drill it into you about lean Protein first then veggies..none of which is pizza..so I think a treat on rare occasion should be fine.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
