I would find a good therapist who works with bariatric patients. Only you know if its the right thing for you! I love to eat too but I prefer to be healthy and eat less.

I think the majority of us that have decided to get this done love to eat. That's why we're here. Me, I look for that "full feeling" so the way I've decided to look at this is...once my stomach is smaller, I'll choose healthier food and regardless I'll feel full. I think it's just going to be a matter of getting used to eating healthier. I see it as a "system reset" lol...starting new and better.

I was completely confident, gung-ho and excited about my decision to get the sleeve until about a week beforehand, when I started to panic. It's not uncommon to get cold feet when things start getting real. I viewed this surgery as a breakup from an unhealthy relationship - where you know your "partner" (food, in this case) isn't healthy or productive physically, mentally or emotionally - but it's comfortable and ending the relationship is scary, as is the thought of being solo without your crutch / companion. From what I've read, this is a very common feeling in the few weeks before surgery. A therapist is always a good idea to help work through any of these feelings / issues. I'm now only 5 days post-op and can't (yet) say that this is the best thing I've ever done, but I'm incredibly optimistic (and the 13 pounds I've lost since starting to pre-op diet is definitely helping to stay focused!). Hang in there and best of luck!!

I was excited to get my surgery done 'till about two weeks out.... that's when i started to panic. I had my surgery on September 13th, three weeks ago, and I don't regret it. Please don't give up, this is the bravest step you can make! Good luck!

I think what you're feeling is perfectly normal. I journal and keep a list of pros and cons.

Good thing is - you're not alone. Focus on the positive outcomes and you will do great!!!

The only thing I can say as an RnYer is that for sure, for sure, if and when I eat anything that doesn't agree w me or that I should eat, I will never ever eat that one thing again. Dumping syndrome is the biggest deterrent for me and it's not fun. Makes you realize this (eating or cheating) is not worth the torture. Plain truth. Straight facts. I can't have milk and I used to love milk and I won't even put it in coffee. Now you may not need that extreme situation but I had to be honest with myself and stop the madness. Lol. And because my Diabetes called for the RnY

If you know this about yourself, then what are you doing to change this? Are you working with a therapist? Are you attending support groups?

I am not sure yet . I am having my vsg in two day on the 19th of October.

What do you suggest? Or do you anyone in my situation that tried something and actually got some benefits of it ?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
