Has anyone had trouble with being over medicated for hypothyroid since their surgery? Before the surgery I was taking Synthroid for hypothyroid. Since my surgery 9 weeks ago, my doctor has been checking my blood work and I have been overmedicated and in the hyperthyroid levels. She keeps decreasing my dosages, but I can't seem to get the to the right level. Anyone else dealing with this?

Yes - I have Thyroid Cancer - and had my thyroid removed, so on permanent thyroid replacement. About 3 weeks before surgery I noticed some heart pounding - my endo, who approved me for sleeve surgery, checked by TSH, T3 and T4 - and found I was very suppressed in TSH (.3), and low normal on T3 and T4 - I was on 100mg Synthroid and 5mg Cytomel twice a day - he had me reduce the Cytomel to once per day - and i will get checked in 6 weeks for other adjustments post op.

My HW was 291 in Jan 2016, SW(surgery weight) was 238 last Monday - It will take time for your body to adjust to the new dosage levels. They should wait 6 weeks between adjusting meds

Hi, I know this post is a from last year. But my doctor just postponed my surgery because my thyroid dropped to 1.5. He has changed my levothyroxin dosage. But he will not allow me to have surgery until it is normal.

My levels continued to drop after surgery as i lost more weight. I'm now taking. 88mcg 6 days a week. Actually started having heart pounding again, so going in for another test and will likely lower dosage even more. Been having my tsh checked every 6 to 8 weeks since my surgery. Good luck!

I found out doing my clearances that my thyroids were enlarged. My thyroids levels were normal. So I don't know what is going to happen now.

I had to have my medicine reduced a month ago. I had surgery in November 2016(bypass). I had my thyroid removed years ago and had been taking 200 mcg daily for years. It is now at 150 mcg and my pcp said it may need to go lower. You will be fine once it's regulated. No worries [emoji4]

I just really want to get my surgery. It was scheduled for July 17th and I was in the middle of my liquid pre-op diet when they informed me that I could not have surgery until my thyroid is normal. The bariatrician was fine with it, but my primary care Dr. halted the procedure. I am praying that my levels get back to normal, so that I can do this before school starts.

They delayed my surgery until my thyroid was normal (ish). My test was showing a 10.5 and he wanted me in the 4 range. They increased my synthroid from 135 to 175, which is where I'm at currently. I'm hoping I'll start needing a decrease here soon, since I lost nearly 80 pounds since the middle of April, which is the last time they tested me.

If you guys are having issues regulating your thyroid on synthetic meds, try natural ones. Some people have issues converting T4 to T3 or whatever and need natural meds or a T3/T4 combo.

I'm preop stage and I take 137 MCG of levothyroxin. I knew there would be adjustments made as the weight comes off, but this is good stuff to know. Follow up with your primary for all your general health labs. Especially thyroid, potassium and other very important levels that can be thrown off by dehydration and can be life threatening. I work at a hospital in the lab so I see it alot

My thyroid was underacting PRE-surgery and now 1 year POST-surgery I have an appointment with a surgeon to have my thyroid removed because it has become overactive and I have developed Graves disease and have several nodules that are causing problems. If its not one thing its another......

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
