Meds after surgery

Recommended Posts

Hi all. I have a surgery date for Nov. 22nd and I'm leaning towards Gastric Bypass. My only concern is I take 2 time realeased meds. Wellbutrin 300 a day. Xanax 2.0 time released and .5 as needed. I have an appointment with my primary and my surgeon said they would address it in the hospital also. Has anyone been in this situation and found a solution that worked? It took me a long time to get my meds right and I don't want to fix my physical at the cost of my anxiety and depression. Thx in advance.

Time released meds are supposed to be tough after bypass. I can tell you that I take Trintellix (was Brintellix) for depression (though it is apparently immediate release) - 1x per day at bedtime. I did increase my dose post-op, but I don't know if that is so much to do with the malabsorption of med as it has to do with just general additional emotions that come with the rapidly changing body and release of hormones as you lose (plus I got laid off which really was a blow to my ego!). Anyway, I still wouldn't change the surgery for a moment. They can adjust your meds, but it will take some time and adjustment.

Good luck with your decision.

I would definately work with your surgeon on this. I am sure they have come across it alot over the years. I know there are few medications that really do have absorption issues but the time released ones can be a challenge.

I just had the SADI on 7/3, and I haven’t taken my Trintellix since 7/2. Did you take your Trintellix whole or crushed after surgery? I need to start taking it again, but I’m nervous about my pouch tolerating the pill.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Lost my Pup last month and struggled really hard for that first month. Stopped tracking intake and slid into old habits here and there. Also quit working out. Can't walk in the neighborhood because of all of the memories we shared. Losing my Pup is the most heartbreaking thing I've ever been through. My Pup was my world 💔
Talked to my doc during my one year followup and they were not worried about my current status. They know, and I know, that I will get back on track.
