Anyone taking Probiotics before surgery? And if so what are the benefits? I'm trying to make sure that my body is as strong and as healthy as possible before surgery in the hopes to eliminate any complications after.

Any suggestions on ways to prep to make the recovery go smoothly is much appreciated.

Thanks!

Best advice I can give is to start hitting the gym now....begin a structured weight training program as alternate days of cardio.

You'll have great momentum going into surgery.

I work for a acupuncturist/nutritionist. My op day is Dec 21. I have started probiotics, Biotin, B12, zinc, Vitamin D, Curcuma and Vital Zymes to help prep me. I am doing my best to make sure i am the best i can be. I also take ACV to prevent colds etc.

I have been taking probiotics for the past two years and it makes all of the difference when it comes to my stomach and bowels. I had an issue with IBS symptoms and my gastroenterologist added a probiotic to my diet to see if I found any relief and I did. I have also been recommended people take a probiotic post-op to help with Constipation and everyone comes back saying they help more than laxatives.< /p>

I have started taking a Gummy probiotic daily (with fiber) and I have to say I love it. So I'm now taking vit D and B12, a Multivitamin, Iron, and fish oil. Thinking of adding Biotin into the mix. But since the probiotics I am super regular and with my change to a high protein/low carb diet I was getting pretty constipated. So I highly recommend them.

I take a Gummy probiotic. It regulated my bowels. I was chronically constipated. I am 2 weeks out from surgery and started the probiotic again because I went back to bad Constipation.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
