Boudala 27 Posted October 2, 2016 My surgery is scheduled for Oct 6th I'm very very nervous. I am self pay so I will be discharged the next day. My surgeon has me on a one week diet of 5 Protein Shakes per day but I just got my period and my weight went up like 4 lbs which is common for me but very frustrating right now. I also was wondering if it will be difficult for me to climb stairs the next day to go up to my room? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
KristenLe 5,979 Posted October 2, 2016 @@Boudala Don't worry about the weight gain from your period. The liquid diet is to shrink your leaking surgery safer- not really about weight loss. It'll go back down quickly. The stairs may be a little difficult but hold a pillow to your abdomen and take them slowly. Good luck.
blizair09 3,250 Posted October 2, 2016 (edited) I had my surgery last Wednesday (September 28). I was (and still am) sore, but I have been able to get around just fine (including stairs). The only real challenge is bending over and picking something up off of the floor. Actually, this whole thing has been SO MUCH easier than I thought it would be. Christinamo7 4,042 Posted October 2, 2016 nervous is normal! I was nervous - changing my whole life! I didn't really have trouble with stairs, but I only have a 3 step stairs into my house. Hopefully the hospital will give you a binder which you can wear for a short time as long as your abs need it for support. looking forward to hearing how things go with your surgery! ready_to_be_thin 179 Posted October 2, 2016 Hi Boudala! I have had 10 surgeries in my life, and this one was by far the easiest, next to having a cyst removed from my hand. I was self-pay as well, but ended up having to stay 2 days in the hospital....the reason was because I had a hard time coming out of the anesthesia, so they kept me another day just to be safe. But in regard to the pain, it was very, very minimal in the surgical area. I had some gas pain in my shoulder, but it was bearable. Just make sure you walk, walk, walk. I had to walk 20 laps around the hospital floor before I could be discharged. I definitely recommend the walking about every hour...it helps tremendously with the recovery. I also have a two story house, so the first night home, I decided to sleep downstairs in my recliner. But my butt was starting to hurt from being in the chair too long, so the second night home, I went up the stairs and to my room. It wasn't bad at all. I just took them slow and held a small pillow to my abdomen. You will do great, and I wish you the best luck!

Boudala 27 Posted October 7, 2016 @@beatrixkiddo I was discharged the same day and last night was rough with pain. I felt like my pain meds were wearing off about an hour to 90 mins to early. But this morning I took my first levonox shot and it wasn't too bad. The sipping has been hard. My mouth is always dry but when I drink Water it hurts. Trying to focus on 4 or 5 days from now when nausea and pain have reduced. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
beatrixkiddo 10 Posted October 7, 2016 Thank you for the update! Stay positive and make sure you stay hydrated, even if you feel you are forcing yourself. My doctor's personnel tell me that is the biggest problem post op, and the number 1 reason people have to go to the ER post-op (dehydration). I am heading to the hospital in 1 hour for my surgery....
