Have to make yourself eat

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on 9/13. I did well except hernia repair. All that is good now too. No pain no after effects. Nothing. I'm grateful. Problem is now I'm sick of shakes. I'm sick of Soups and personally I almost have to make myself eat. I take my Vitamins and sip tea all day long. I think it's because I am not liking anything I eat. Is anyone having this issue.

I have lost 30 pounds so that's exciting but I know I have to eat.

You need to get your fluids and Protein in. Try new things. I am pre-surgery but have found several websites with food suggestions for each stage along the way. This is a great one: http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com

I was on a puréed diet for the first 8 weeks and I was so sick of it by then - I just wanted to chew something! But I followed the plan laid out by my surgeon and ate my meals even though I was getting sick of them. Looking for new food ideas on discussion boards like this or others did help a bit... Regardless, you do get to real food in not that long a period and in some ways I think this early discipline helps prepare you to enjoy the much smaller portions and different choices as compared to pre-surgery.

I find it hard to eat some days too, other days I feel super hungry! I am 3 weeks out, approved for soft and or purée, but I find I can't eat much soft food. Three or four bites is my max. But the appeal of more choices draws me to keep trying. Right now my go to foods are hummus, off the spoon, tuna mixed with fat free mayo and grated pickles, Peanut Butter off the spoon and cottage cheese with unflavoured Protein powder :) I also like the fact that i can boost these foods with Protein Powder without affecting the taste :)

What is the brand of Protein powder that you use. I'm needing to get some but when I start to look there are too many choices.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
