Anyone out there a few months or more that can say if it comes back? For me it's just about every food and drink I've tried is revolting. Really getting to me and now- I need to eat something I don't have to literally gag down!

It's funny, I'm one week out from my sleeve procedure now and I haven't noticed a change in my taste buds at all. Seems like all the stuff on the liquid diet tastes the same as it did to me before the surgery. I don't know if I've noticed any change in my olfactory senses, either...although I think maybe my desire to have different flavors than this boring stuff I've been having for three weeks might be partly responsible for that!

I do have to say, though, that my desire for sweet things is GONE. I don't have any hankerings for cakes and Cookies, or candy bars or anything I used to really like, now. That's a huge blessing. Really, what I'm feeling like is crunchy, chewy, salty/savory...flavorful texture, basically. But as far as junk, I don't really want any of that at all.

My taste also changed immediately after. Vets, does it get back to normal?

I'm not much of a vet at 11 months, but it did come back for me...mostly.

The first weeks after surgery was the most noticeable.

I was sipping an ounce or two of Protein every hour. The flavors of things were more distinct. Anything that was overly "anything" in any direction was not enjoyed. Too sweet.....too tart.....too salty....etc.

My biggest aversion was anything that was strongly sweetened with artificial sweetener.

For the most part I've reverted back to normal these past few months. There are certain foods that I don 't care for....but it's not a flavor thing. It's just a strong preference to avoid them that I can't explain. Rice and cottage cheese are two such foods. Prior to surgery, I'd eat them without a second thought. Now, though, I just about hurl at the thought of either. No logical reason why.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
