caylyn 3 Posted September 30, 2016 Hello. I had my R en Y surgery this past monday 9/26. I was wondering how long does it usually take to have any sort of bowel movement? Going pee has not been an issue thank god Sent from my SCH-S968C using the BariatricPal App
Gordita81 98 Posted September 30, 2016 (edited) Depends on whether or not you are taking the pain meds among other things. My surgery was on 9/26 as well. I have not needed the meds and I started moving my bowels on my own yesterday 9/29. Some people must use baby prunes or other supplements. shedo82773 1,236 Posted September 30, 2016 Just remember "NOTHING in sometimes means NOTHING OUT!!! You just keep track on how long you go without. If you feel like you need to go I would call my DR. before taking anything for it.
BigTina 0 Posted October 1, 2016 My surgery was Sept, 21st , by the 26th of NOT going i took a light laxative...it was bad for a day but all seems good now. KatB5331 21 Posted October 1, 2016 I had surgery on the 26th and had a bm the night of the 27th/28th. It wasn't solid as I had only had broth. There was a good bit of gas involved too. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
kerber 22 Posted October 1, 2016 I was 8 days without and had dumping syndrome from it. My surgeon told me to get some milk of magnesia and to get my bowels moving. You should call your surgeon and ask what they recommend. Sent from my SM-G800R4 using the BariatricPal App

JulieNOLA 44 Posted October 6, 2016 Take milk of magnesia - no cramping and works great. Otherwise it will sit in there and get hard as rocks Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
Kittymom 40 Posted October 7, 2016 My surgery was Sept. 26, I had to take a stool softener to get thing moving, My Dr instructed me to get them before, so I would have them. Didn't have movement until Oct 1st. And it was painful, because I thought nothing big was going in so there should be anything to come out, WRONG. I would call your Dr office
bia1nca1 38 Posted October 7, 2016 My surgery was on 9/28 and had 1st bm 3 days later and been regular ever since. I exceed my hydration and Protein goals and I know this contributed to me having no issues related to the bathroom.
