people tend to be doing pretty well and cleared for normal activity at around 4 weeks, but that is a general idea.

you may feel great sooner, or a little later.

I seem to recall from another thread that you are about 3 days out?

It is different for everybody, but you should turn a corner within the next couple of days. Then, it seems like it get a tiny bit better each day. You may hit a phase where you are exhausted, but for me that lasted less than a week.

Hitting your Protein and Water goals will help you heal faster. Hang in there!

I am day 2 post-op and if it wasn't for the largest incision I would feel fine. I am walking, getting in my fluids, taking my pain medication and sleeping. Yesterday was awful, today was better and hopefully tomorrow will be even better. I have to believe that or it would be depressing. I hope you are able to get to 100% so you can be all you want to be for your kids. Imagine how awesome life will be once we are feeling great again. Keep the faith, this too shall pass.

I think it depends on the person.

I have had a few problems for two months. I have heard from many they felt great right from the start and others say it takes a good 6 months to start feeling your new normal and being used to it. Each day is a new journey. Good luck to you.

Even with a minor post op complication, at ten days out today, I feel pretty good. I haven't required any pain meds since Wednesday. The sip sip sip is getting less annoying and becoming more enjoyable, as well as closer to reaching my daily goals. Like everyone says, we are all different, but the more positive you remain in your recovery, the better the outcome should be :). You got this!

@ rolosmom7 how soon did you go back to work and what did you experience ?

Went back day 13 to work half days. That was Tues and Wed. Thursday I worked from home and today I was able to hang until 2. I have a desk job, but in a very large building (a mile long). Walking to and from meetings when one ends at 10 and another starts at 10 was rough as it's a good hustle.

I have endometriosis as well, since the surgery it's been horrid. I came home and took some serious naps.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
