So....I have a dilemma, I have a date set to have my sleeve done October 12th. Tonight I went out to dinner with my boyfriend and ended up in the ER with a gallbladder attack. They are currently working on admitting me and I will speak with the surgical PA in the morning.

Has anyone ever had their gallbladder removed a couple weeks before their WLS?? My surgeon was going to take a look at it and if he was able to get at it the plan was to take it out then.

It took me soooo long to get insurance approval and I am so excited to finally work towards a healthier me and now I'm stuck with a "hot" gallbladder as the doctor called it (he had quite the sense of humor...or maybe it's the pain killers lol)

Just looking to see if anyone had a similar situation and how it worked out.

Thanks

You may want to call your surgeon and see if they can do your sleeve at the same time.....I know I've read about several folks who have had it done at the same time.......Sorry I don't have experience with it, but I would sure be on the phone trying to get in touch. It seems like it would be good to get both taken care of at the same time if possible.

Good luck to you and I hope you feel better really quickly.

Thanks [emoji4] I'm hoping maybe I can coordinate something that would be best case scenario, my biggest fear is they have to push off my sleeve so I can recover from the gallbladder!

I know it would be disappointing if they have to delay your sleeve surgery....but try to focus on the big picture. If they do have to delay it will most likely only be a few weeks......and when you're talking a life time change a few weeks is nothing. :) ........one way or the other you'll have your sleeve surgery! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that they end up being able to do both at the same time. Good luck to you!!

I've read about ppl having their sleeve and gallbladder out the same time as well. Def worth asking about.

I talked to my surgeons office, they are going to leave me on the schedule. So my surgery isn't cancelled thank god!

The issue is - I ended up at a different hospital and my situation is somewhat emergent. I didn't realize it but I'm actually jaundiced and my lab values were not good. I have gallstones between my liver and stomach so it's not an easy gallbladder removal.

And now I'm stuck in the hospital until possibly Tuesday...ill think of this as a trial run lol. We are going to play it by ear and see how my recovery progresses from the gallbladder removal but so far I'm still on track for October 12th.

I had to have my gallbladder in an emergency situation. Gall stones were blocking my pancreas and causing acute pancreatitis. I was in sugery within 3 hours of being admitted.

If they can do a twofer that would be awesome.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
