Hi everyone! Been a lurker for sometime and ohhh what an inspiration you all are! A little more than three weeks and I will have my VSG. Wondering if anyone elected to have your gall bladder removed during surgery or if you had problems soon after surgery that made it nessessary. I have chosen to go to Mexico with Dr. Selim Jalil Illan Fraijo through bariatricpal. Anxiously excited! Thanks in advance...

Type "gall bladder" in the Search section, upper right. It should show up threads and posts on this topic.

I had my gall bladder out many years ago, as I had a huge stone there, and I was in horrible pain.

There are few members here who had their gall bladders taken out at the same time as VSG.

Few of them had gallstones though.

Few members had their gall bladders out few months after VSG, so it really depends.

Good luck with your surgery.

I had my gallbladder out durin sleeve surgery but had a history of stones. A good doctor will not remove a healthy organ if there isn't a diagnosis.

Agree with @@trekker954 my surgeon (US) will not take your gallbladder out unless you have stones, mainly because while some people do develop stones after losing weight it certainly isn't a guarantee.

Thankfully I had to have mine removed 15 years ago after losing a mere 40 pounds on Weight Watchers.

Yes, the reason for gall bladder removal is presence of gall-stones.

Some people develop gall stones after VSG, some don't.

If gall-stones are present and found before VSG, then the gall bladder will most likely be removed at the same time.

Healthy gall bladder will not be removed, as mentioned above.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
