JonteRaynal 2 Posted September 29, 2016 Hello again Sleevers. I'm approaching 3 weeks post op and I wanted to know when it is okay to start having dairy. I LOVE cheese and a lot of it. I love sour cream. When can I start having it? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
Inner Surfer Girl 12,015 Posted September 30, 2016 I started eating dairy products when I was on full liquids. As long as the texture is appropriate for the phase you are on I am not aware of any specific prohibition against dairy (unless you are lactose intolerant). Greek yogurt and cheese are pretty much staples for me.
RickM 1,752 Posted September 30, 2016 The basic rule for these questions is, what does your doc's program say? My experience has been that dairy is no problem at any point, and had yogurt in the hospital, and had milk based Protein Shakes, yogurt, eggs, soft cheeses, etc. from the day I got home (which is on our plan, but more advanced than many). Of course, some will wind up lactose intolerant, so that needs to be handled by either avoidance or using Lactaid products. Sour cream may be a bit caloric and low Protein for use in any quantity, but should be tolerated ok.
Bufflehead 6,358 Posted September 30, 2016 Whenever your surgeon says you can. I never had any problems with dairy post-op, but I did have to watch amounts. It is easy to eat a lot, and they have so many calories I would have stopped my weight loss dead in its tracks if I ate as much as I wanted of things like cheese and butter.
