it depends on your program - they're all different. Grits are pretty high in carbs, so I don't think my program would have approved - at least not that early out

I am 4 months out and my team does not allow any of the things listed in this topic except for eggs (at 2.5 months out at least). Only carbs I should be getting are from my non-starchy veggies and sugar free popsicles.

You are eating regular foods too soon post-op. Grits are a big NO w/ bypass surgery. Fruits and eggs are not for a few more weeks. If your doctor didn't give you materials outlining what you can eat when, you could cause ulcers in your pouch or cause damage! I bought a book back before the procedure - a guide to eating after weight loss surgery for dummies. It has been very helpful! But my Doctor & dietician gave week by week lists of what could be eaten too. Good luck! A

I'm not sure if thin grits are on mine 2 weeks out but oatmeal, cream of wheat, and eggs are. Even thin mash potatoes but only 5-10% of diet can be carbs 70% Protein and 15-20% veggies then the rest after I've gotten Protein can be carbs. My issue is a lot of protein things have carbs just a little and it usually makes up that small % without extras. Did try mash potatoes yesterday. I don't even like them anymore. Who would a thought this girl snubbing nose at bread and potato's.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
