Scared To Face My Doctor!!

Recommended Posts

I AM STILL ON MY PRE-OP DIET, MY SURGERY IS 9/5 AND I STARTED ON M,Y SECOND WEEK AND JUST COULD NOT DRINK ANY MORE LIQUIDS(SLIMFAST , Soups, ETC) I LOST ABOUT 6LBS THE FIRST WEEK AND THEN WENT DOWN HILL FROM THERE. I MIGHT HAVE GAINED A POUND OR TWO SINCE , BUT I'M TO SCARED TO GET ON THE scale. I HAVEN'T BEEN OVER EATING JUST EATING SALADS AND GRILLED chicken. BUT STILL DON'T THINKL I'VE LOST ANYMORE WEIGHT AND SCARED THE DOCTOR MIGHT TELL ME I CAN'T HAVE THE SURGERY BECAUSE I DIDN'T LOSE THE WEIGHT. WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT IT THEY ALREADY KNOW YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH food IF YOUR OVERWEIGHT, SO WHY PUT YOU THROUGH THE liquid diet FOR 2 WEEKS. YES, I KNOW ABOUT THE LIVER, BUT STILL, WHY NOT GIVE YOU A DIET THAT YOU CAN EAT HEALTHY FOODS TO LOSE THE WEIGHT? I AM SO MAD AT MY SELF FOR NOT BEING ABLE TO STAY ON THAT DIET. SOOOO MAAAAAAD!!!:whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo:

Hi Redgirl,

Calm down!!! You are doing great...

All I had to do was to be on Clear Liquids The day before the surgery...NO EATING AT ALL...And all DRINKING had to be stopped at midnight.

I ate like you did... Salads, chicken, etc...lite stuff..

Don't worry.. you will still have your surgery!!!

Let me know how you do..I had my surgery on the 27th of August.

Pat

Hi Redgirl,

Don't beat yourself up about it....IT is a pretty yucky diet, and a lot of people dont stick with it 100%. I had to be on clear liquids 3 days prior to surgery, and it was TOUGH. I never want to smell or taste beef or chicken broth as long as I live.

Just keep it very light, and remember NOTHING after midnight the day of surgery. Good luck....

Peggy

Well, you're being a little tough on yourself but perhaps you should consider coming clean with your doctor. I say this because I have found its REALLY important to have a good relationship with my doc in order to make it through this battle. Sometimes when I'm struggling, my surgeon has the best advice to help me see that the struggle is worth it. Probably your doctor can be a source of support for you as well.

Going forward, it will be important to stick to doctor's orders to make the most of this experience. Slipping up and caving into one real meal during liquids is human. Just try to find balance as you go through this. Stick to what you're supposed to do and if you mess up, just mess up once then get back on track. And in the meantime give yourself credit for choosing salads and chicken instead of cake and chips!

The pre-op "diet" is not to lose weight specifically, it is to take in the types of foods that help to shrink the liver size so the surgeon has easier access during the operation. Just do the best you can.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
