Crystal Ann Keister 49 Posted September 29, 2016 (edited) How long until you can have chewing gum or use straws again? Is that forever? I want a piece of gum so bad at this moment. 7 weeks post op DS procedure 8/15/16. Crystal Edited September 29, 2016 by Crystal Ann Keister
kimini 175 Posted September 29, 2016 SF gum is okay by my surgeon (with the caveat that you don't swallow it, of course). I am at 6 weeks, and I have been having it after most meals (in lieu of washing down with fluids) since I have been on solids. Check with your surgeon/nut if you're worried, but this is one of those rules that many say is based on myth.
Kathy812 794 Posted September 30, 2016 I couldn't have gum until two months out, check with your bariatric team. Hang in there.
RoachBug 233 Posted September 30, 2016 Have chewed gum and used a straw since day 1. Well the straw at least, gum shortly after. My surgeon did not have a problem with either. He did warn against swallowing the gum though.
Browneyedgirl41 176 Posted October 1, 2016 I don't use straws but I chew sf gum, esp when I feel head hunger, as they call it. I am less than 4 weeks post op.
kelliev2015 136 Posted October 1, 2016 My surgeon told me it was fine but be super careful not to swallow it as it could cause serious issues.
