Bumps in the Road....

Recommended Posts

So everything has been moving smooth then ...... I find out my surgeon that I was going with will no longer be working with the practice. So ok that's fine I have another surgeon on stand by. That's taken care of. My problem was getting the six months of weight management from my primary care physician. Oh by the way she is out on Maternity Leave. someone slap me. Well I was told by her that the physician she is sending her patients to could handle everything for me. Well all they had to do is submit forms to the surgeon stated what my weight was every month and goals, progress, and recommendations. Do you think that happened. No. She sent the weight and dates. What the hell??!?!? The surgeon office called saying they more info. I called the PCP office , you know they said ummm we are not sure what your doctor recommended for you. Ummm what?!?!? It's in the computer system. Hellloooooo. I said don't worry about it. The papers are signed right? That's fine I will fill it in myself. Have a good day. I don't have time for all of that. Are they insane. The insurance company will not accept blank forms. Smh

Sorry that this has happened. I know when i started my process i went to my PCP to have her start the 6 month documented diet only to realize that she was not the best person to follow me given she hardly recorded anything and I found out the surgeons office would need more info.

So, I started over with the bariatric center of excellence that my insurance company recommended. Thankfully i was only one month into the process.

I got much better guidance working with the nutritionist, physcologist and bariatric nurses and doctors in that 6 months. It set me up for success.

Yeah . My PCP didn't really tell me anything. Honestly I'm not going back through that process again. I'm filling out the papers seriously, that's what the surgeon office said I could do. Being as though she is on leave. I mean what the heck couldn't be better timing right?!? I'm glad you were only 1 month in because it's a long process.

My Bariatric center was actually where I went to have my 6 month check ups. All my PCP did was write a letter saying that she thinks surgery would be a good choice for me.

My surgeon and his team have done everything else.

Nut, psych, everything. Lol.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
