I had very minimal swelling and never had an issue eating my portions during liquid, puree or soft food. It freaked me out too, I half way teasingly asked my surgeon if he was sure he took my stomach out at my 1 month post op. I think we are so used to trying/failing diet after dist before surgery that we subconsciously assume we'll fail this too. My MD and NUT pointed out that eating my portion, feeling satisfied but not stuffed was exactly how we're supposed to be training our bodies/brains to eat during this time. They reminded me that if I'm measuring my portions and eating just my measured portion that's NOT overeating.

I am 8 months out and still don't eat until I'm full. I measure at home ( eyeball portion size out) and eat just that much, nothing more. I am satisfied but not stuffed or uncomfortable.

Then I'd leave worthless, non nutritive carbs like crackers off the menu until you are at goal. Eating stuff like that is a bad habit to get into so soon post op. Stick with the tuna, other Proteins and veggies for now. Especially considering you seem to have a fairly large sleeve capacity. It was probably 3-4 months before I could have eaten 3oz of anything solid.

I'm eating solids 9 days out, chewing well, eating slowly, 60 plus grams of protein...about 700 calories a day and walking an hour a day. I'm not having any issues with nausea and haven't vomited once. I feel like I'm different than most. All I read is how people have no appetite, how their taste buds have changed, how they can't keep anything down, etc. I still feel like a hog since I seem to be eating too much. I honestly eat out of hunger...amd no it's not head hunger.

Hello everyone. I'm 4 weeks out but my doctor said no bread, crackers, rice or Pasta for six months. Plus these are carbs that we are trying to avoid. I think the tuna is a great option as well as egg salad, sometimes I have it on a slice of cheese. Just a thought.

Good Luck.

Describe dangerous...you can stretch the sleeve but that takes more than a few times of overeating. You know when that last bite is just right vs that one more bite makes you uncomfortable. I think it's all about finding your personal set full point.

Sleeves don't stretch.

:)

I am three and a half years out and if I were to eat 3oz of tuna, I'd be stuffed. No way would I be eating the crackers, too, especially at your stage in the game. Useless carbs IN MY OPINION. :) AGAIN!! Just my opinion.

My doctor recommended eating over 30 minutes and stopping without distraction. That said, I know how hard that is with kids, so I'd recommend measuring out what your doctor recommends and eating just that. (At two weeks out, I was allowed 1-2 oz or 3 tablespoons.)

Do you feel full? Satisfied? Were you still hungry when you went back to finish?

:)

The stomach does stretch. I've read research on this and my doctor confirmed. I know we are all different and tolerate different foods and amounts. I exercise daily burning about 300 calories a day. I eat anywhere from 600-800 calories per day. That, works for me. I'm losing weight and getting my Protein in which is key.

The stomach does stretch, I agree! A properly sleeved stomach will not stretch significantly.

But hey! What do I know? I am 3.5 years out and can still only eat 1/2 cup to a cup on a BIG day per serving. :D

I can/will only speak on MY experience. :D

Dangerous as in the eating may damage the surgery and cause complications ?

I am 2 1/2 weeks out from surgery. I've been worried since day one that my sleeve isn't tight enough. I've been able to drink Water and get Protein shakes down with absolutely no problem from day 2 on! Today I ate a can of those little Bumble Bee Lemon Pepper tuna Kits (comes in a 3 oz cans with 5 crackers). I ate half of it, and then 50 minutes later ate the other half. Does this sound like too much? I don't feel like I over ate at all. I feel comfortable. The reason it makes me nervous is because I have my cousin and my best friend, who also was sleeved, tell me there's no way they could have ever eaten that much only 2 1/2 weeks post op. Makes me feel like I won't be as successful as them. I had a total of 3.5 oz of food in an hour time span. Am I freaking out for nothing? LOL

Awesome post, and timely! So I'm day 6 postop and my wife is freaking out over the same thing. Since Day3 I have no problems finishing a 12oz Protein shake over 20-30 minutes. Just constantly sipping away it. Fluids for me have not been an issue at all, cold, hot, room temp. She is concerned that I am drinking way too much...........is there such a thing?

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.
