Recommended Posts

I was told not the crust but the toppings if I wipe them off. I'm 4 months post op RNY. I haven't tried it yet.

It depends, how far out are you?

It all depends on where in the process you are. I think the first time i tried pizza was around 6 months post op and initially I hated it. The best pizza for us RNYer are a super thin crispy crust almost like cracker crust.

I however did not eat any crust until I was nearly a year out because i wanted to continue to lose and not stall. It was nearly 18 months post op before i could tolerate crust or bread of any kind.

Lastly I would just say that eating isn't the only thing to focus on during a party. I found that I have learned not to focus on the food but focus on the company. You might consider eating before hand and spending your time chatting with your friends or coworkers.

Best of luck to you!

I've only had pizza three times since I had surgery 16 months ago. First time would have been about six months out. That time and the following time I scraped the toppings off and ate those. The last time i had it (about a month ago), I ate one piece with the crust - but it was a super thin crust.

I have not tried pizza. Well, at least not a full traditional slice. I am 4 months out. I've been around family and friends when they had pizza. What I did was blot the grease off (the Jersey girl in me cries for this) and then just ate the cheese off a plain slice. That was once my team approved me for cheese. No pepperoni, sausage or anything like that. I will admit, I felt like a barbarian for throwing the crust away, because where I grew up, that is sacrilege. xD

i eat the toppings off the pizza and throw away the crust. It is not ideal but sometimes it is the best I can do in a work setting.

I'm sure the temptation to try pizza would be strong at a party w/ just pizza. But your chances of having dumping just from the pepperoni, cheese & grease should be considered. It could ruin your entire night. Maybe eat right before you go & bring a back up snack in case you feel you need to eat something later.

There will be situations for all of us where we are challenged to make healthy choices. But what I think will surely motivate me big time is fear of dumping!!! Ughhh! Good luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
