I got my sleeve surgery on sept 19 and I was amazed how well I felt as soon as I woke up from the Anastasia I even asked the doctor if he had done anything because I felt no pain in my stomach I felt no gas pains or anything the only pain I had my the biggest opening by the stomach area and it only hurt when I stand up or sat down but by now I feel great I feel no pain and I feel like before the surgery like if nothing ever happen I think the part that hurt the most was them trying to find my vain for the iv they poke me like 10 times lol well I'm happy to say since the surgery I lost 20 pounds and I'm excited to continue forward it's tuff when I see food all around you but I have in my mind the mentality of I didn't just get rid of 80% stomach for nothing this is a life style change I will greatly miss pizza and burgers but at the end I want a healthy lifestyle and it's all will power it's a mental game but with consistency anything is possible if anyone needs advice or help feel free to message me

Hi edc90. I had my first consult last week. After reading some of these posts......I'm teetering on my decision. I'm 62 and have some minor health issues. Any words of encouragement?

beginanew: DO NOT HESITATE. this is a no brainer. you have much less than 1% chance of complications compared to more than 80% chance of diabetes, heart attack, stoke, HBP, apnea, kidney issues, depression, arthritis and on and on with obesity. IT IS A NO-BRAINER. and really not that hard.

Beginanew do not double think it just get it done like jilani said it's worst the outcome of complication from been overweight than from doing this surgery one of the main reasons I did it is because I was diagnose with diabetes last year and trust me I prefer dealing with this surgery instead of the complications of diabetes just do it don't double think everything is for the best take changes in life you only have one I used to be like that double think everything and things never got done now I don't I just go with the flow and hope for the best and enjoy life one day at a time

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
