Where do I put my scale ?

As I left my post op appt the receptionist said "and don't forget to stay off the scale " . I have heard this before but just nodded and smiled . I am realizing that I am obsessed with my scale . I jump on it a few times a day . Sometimes happy and sometimes disappointed , but always knowing "where I'm at " . What is the reason for this "rule" ??? How often do you guys weigh yourself ?

Honestly it depends on my mood. Sometimes I weight myself every morning. Some weeks I weigh myself only on Monday morning.

I keep my scale in a corner in my bedroom. If I am avoiding it, I just slide it under the bed.

I keep mine in the bathroom. I weigh often, and record it on Mondays to see if I can follow a trend.

If you can weigh every day (or even several times a day) and understand that there are going to be stalls and fluctuations without letting it freak you out or ruin your whole day, then there's no problem weighing more frequently.

When I was losing, I weighed daily and recorded my weight on Mondays. Now in maintenance, I still weigh daily for accountability. Before surgery, avoiding the scale was a recipe for disaster for me!

I weigh infrequently.

Why the "rule"?

Because the scale is just one measure of progress.

Because obsessing about short-term fluctuations can make people crazy and isn't very productive.

Because our bodies are complex systems and not simple machines.

Because weight fluctuations and stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process of losing weight.

Because if you are following your program you will lose weight.

Because life is too short!

I am struggling with this also. My scale is in plain sight in my bathroom and I share it with my husband, who likes to weigh often. I am trying to adopt a more casual attitude about it, but some days I just can't resist, and I am often disappointed I am not seeing more progress.

I was weighing every few days, hated that 3rd week stall. Was on travel for work Monday to monday, half of which was in Vegas, so lots of walking. No scale. Imagine my excitement yesterday when I weighed 5 pounds lighter. I'm 7 weeks out

The "rule" is because some people allow the scale to make them crazy. Especially early on, the scale is a VERY poor indicator of progress and "success". Weight can fluctuate drastically from one hour to the next. Some people just can't handle seeing the scale not move or move up. If you can handle it and understand that the numbers aren't a reflection on your success, then go for it. If you are going to be emotionally affected by what the scale has to say, then just put it away somewhere and only get it out to weigh once a week or even once a month to track your basic trendline.

Mine is in the closet. Going on an eight week business trip and hope the apartment does not have a scale. Think the gym might but will try my best to avoid it

I have known people to keep their scale in the trunk of their car if the temptation is too great to weigh every day.

I absolutely hated my old scale. It was one of those super fancy piles O' poo that said way more than a fat man should ever know. It also required multiple button pushes on a small button just to get it to read my weight in pounds. I filled it full of lead and used it's pieces to fill my trash can. Liberating! I bought a plain jane scale that I keep in my bathroom and I'm soooo much happier.

In my bedroom. I think as someone else mentioned it above, it can make one nervous and lose hope. We slip back to "what is the point of doing all this if I am not going to lose any weight" silliness. I weigh myself daily but I don't let the numbers get to me. As long as I don't gain, not losing every day or week is not an issue for me.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
