I am scheduled for surgery November 30th and saw my therapist yesterday. She keeps asking me about my emotions as the date gets closer and I just can't seem to put it into words for her. She asks if I'm scared and I am but I am also looking forward to my new way of life.

I know it is normal to be excited and nervous and anxious but the OCD part of me wants to be prepared in time with pre-made broths and ideas for Protein Shakes. I don't attend another nutrition class until Nov 4th so maybe I'll ask those questions then. I just want to be ready!

I see the surgeon and do my pre op paperwork on Nov 17th and have started a small list of questions for him like "Can I scoop the litterbox?", "Can I bend over to feed my cat?", etc.

I'm trying not to over-think it all but can't help myself! What are you guys doing as you get ready for surgery? Any help is appreciated!

I felt the same way before my surgery(8/23). It's hard because you don't know what to expect. I would say for the first two weeks take it as easy as possible, your incisions will be the worst part(at least they were for me). I had absolutely no pain coming out of surgery and the worst part was the gas buildup from the Co2, it wasn't painful but uncomfortable. Just keep saying to yourself that you are doing this to improve your health, you are strong and can handle this. The biggest hurdle for me wasn't physical but mental, you are saying good bye to some of your normal foods and that's hard, but in time you will learn that you can have some of those foods again just in smaller portions. I am here for support if you want to email me. YOU CAN DO THIS!!!!!!

God Bless

AnnMarie

It's good to be prepared.

For the first couple days I could not scoop the litter box or bend down to feed the cats. I was not taking pain meds after the hospital and it Was just too painful, so had help.

Good luck!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
