How do you deal with sipping when you gulp or down your drinks. I'm worried about that. I live in Louisiana and it's hot. I love Water. But I'm not a sipper. I'm scared. I'm preop and my first surgeon's appointment is Thursday.

You'll get the hang of it. Hundreds of thousands of people before you have. It's good that you are conscious of the need to change and are planning for that. You'll do fine.

After 2 days I was drinking 1/2 glasses of Water at a time. I had less gas then with those little gargle cups and I felt more comfortable. I told my doctor on the 5 day follow up and he said it was fine. Check with your doctor to be sure good luck

It's an adjustment for sure. I too was a gulper, often times downing 1/2 to 3/4 of a bottle of Water at a time. I've learned to drink slower and sip more often. The first time you try to gulp will be your last...at least it was for me. In addition to the large volume of liquid when you gulp, the air you take in with it can be painful. That pain subsides the further post-op you get, but it's still a discomfort when I do it.

You'll get the hang of it. I'm able to drink a lot more in a single sip now than right after surgery, but nowhere near what I did pre-op. It hasn't prevented me from getting in more than enough fluids though, so it doesn't bother me too much.

I live in Las Vegas where temps in summer get to 115 and up, so I know the feeling with being in a hot environment. One piece of advice, if you are very thirsty at the same time you are about to eat, TAKE A DRINK FIRST!!! It's easier to wait 15 minutes to start eating than it is to wait long enough after you eat to drink comfortably.

Once you have the surgery, the pain when you gulp Water will force you to slow down. It was a huge adjustment for me, I've always slammed a 16 oz glass of Water with no trouble.

I was probably in my 2nd or 3rd week post-op and was taking my allergy meds before bed one night. I totally forgot what I was doing and filled my large bathroom glass with water and gulped it all down. The PAIN...omg. And it came right back up, too.

Now, 3 months out, I can take a couple of large swallows at a time and am consistently getting my 64 oz in daily. I keep water with whenever possible and I take a drink as often as I can. I NEVER walk by a fountain without taking a drink, and I never pour water from my glass into the dog bowl or a plant anymore. I stand there and bit by bit, drink it all. You feel better AND look better when you get all your water in daily.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
