Hungry Hungry Hippo seeks Less Hungry Hippo to buddy up and um... not be hungry?

Recommended Posts

A little about me. I was sleeved on 9-6-2016. I'm no wordsmith, but I have a gigantic sense of humor that matches the size of my gigantic (but soon to be smaller) hindquarters. I am struggling with cravings and head hunger and need a friend or two to help keep me motivated and accountable. Plus I need someone to laugh at my jokes. No really. Laugh dammit!

I love people with a sense of humor and you've got it in spades. Your topic title had me in (non-surgical) stitches. ????

I am RNY and over a year out, so can't really offer first hand experience for the buddy position. But I'm definitely laughing so you're halfway there.

Something tells me you're going to excel at this. Best of luck!

Welcome hungry hippo. I was sleeved on August 15. The good thing for me is when I eat most of the time I feel nauseated. So I think twice if eating again.

@FindingOnderland...thanks for making me laugh today. Wish I was sleeved already so we could be buddies. LMAO! Probably couldn't be buddies anyways, I would die if I lost any if my hindquarters (flat as it is). Hmmm, I think somehow my butt ended up being in the front. ????

I'm 2 weeks out. The first 5 days I didn't have much hunger. When I did Water or Crystal Light tool care of it. 2nd week out it began increasing. I'm on 3 shakes (I use premier) a day. I supplement with miso broth and homemade Bone Broth. I also have sugar free ice pops. They were very soothing a few days after surgery and I use them now. I'm hungry but it's really not awful. If I distract myself it gets better( I need to start cleaning the house in those moments)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
